After twelve years of living wonderfully in ‘my’ bay, it is time for something different. I have never lived in the same place for so long. And I do not regret it. I have learned a lot in a completely new environment, a different culture. I already knew that our western, rich life is not blissful. During my travels before I settled on Brava, I had already lived in places in tropical countries for a long time. Half a year here or a year there, so I knew a bit about what it is like to live differently. After twelve years in Brava, I am more Bravura than Dutch and I will never really settle in the west again. I do not know if it is ‘better life’ but in any case different. I have learned to live with little, with a lot of peace, you do not always have to be in control, you take it as it is. We always say that we have little money (and that is true) but a lot of time. We live in a close-knit community where everyone has time for each other. Where a party regularly breaks out spontaneously.

Why do I want something different again? I don’t know, it’s the nature of the beast, I say. And if people ask what I’m going to do when I’ve sold the house, I don’t know. Then something will surely come my way again…

When the time comes, I’ll definitely have to wipe away a tear…
